What a marriage year between 2010 and 2011! Guess...what ?? Because one of my friends whose name is Sister T, is going to marry her girlfriend on Sep. 19. My younger sister will get married on this year and my cousin will marry on the first month of next year. Wa.....it's quite busy, right !

How about me ? Love is simple, but getting marriage is not easy. I cherish what I have and deeply wish them!!!!! :)

Traditional Beliefs

Traditional beliefs are something believed or accepted as true, especially a particular tenet or a body of tenets accepted by a group of people for a long time without changing. But is it important for people to keep the ways of culture and pass them on to their children?

Taiwan folk beliefs have roots in polytheism, all kinds of seasonal customs and festivals. Through these customs and festivals, the people of Taiwan are able to add enjoyment to their daily lives, maintain cultural identity with friends as well as relatives, and remove doubts or ease difficulties through religious rituals.

The elders give children and unmarried relatives red envelopes with lucky money inside to signify good fortune. The amount of the cash inside the red envelope is normally an even number because the odd number is considered unlucky. The act of giving the red envelope brings good luck to the person who receives it, and also to the one who gives it out. What this means is that the more red envelopes you give to others, the more good luck will come to you. There is also an ancient belief that giving the red envelop symbolizes gaining a long life for the person who gives it. The effect of such practice is believed to be stronger when one gives more red envelopes to young people.

There are also some superstitions and taboos associated in our country. One should try to avoid breaking things, like bowls and cups during Chinese New Year because breaking any of the above is considered unlucky and is said to result in the break-up of fortune or family unity. Do not use your fingers to point to the moon; otherwise, your ears will become rotten the near future. When I was child, I did not believe the story. An inspiration flashed through my mind suddenly, so I tried and my ears became rotten each other day. What a miraculous happening was!

Some of the old beliefs are obsolete while some of them give a feel-good factor and others are fun to do. However, it is a merit to pass them to the younger generations as long as they are taken or followed in the proper perspective without really attaching a very serious and critical importance to do them. An old saying has it well, “Better to believe the worst and be pleasantly surprised than to be optimistic and learn the worst.”

Best Way for Children to Learn

Listening, speaking, reading and writing are the ways people get information from parents or teachers, but teaching is indeed less simple than learning! Learners only need to understand what teachers say. Unlike parents or teachers, learners do not need to know how to prepare the teaching material or where to get the teaching material. As a result, having good role models is important for children when it comes to learning because of the famous saying, “Like father, like son.” Children are often shaped by their parents, primary care providers or teachers.

Before teaching children, forming a good relationship is also important in the process of teaching and learning. The relationship plays an important role in developing children’s characters. The better relationship, the more likely the child will adopt positive behaviors and attitudes. If teachers do not understand what their students need, they will not be effective teachers. Parents should find out what children demand, or children might not study well, which is a key element in learning.

The best way for children to learn should be actively asking questions not just passively sitting in class to listen to the teachers and getting information by watching TV. How can parents or teachers help their children develop good reading skills? Parents and care-givers can try a number of things like the ones below to help their children develop good reading skills. First, parents should spend more time doing something together! Instead of just listening to what they talk about their school, parents should be more active in involving in their children’s lives. Second, asking time should be planned for each day, and talk about what children have questions. This activity will help children solve their problems and learn new words. Third, be a model for your child. Family education has great influence on the way children behave and interact with others.

In brief, to learn is the willingness of learning. If a child does not want to learn, it is impossible to teach them. Parents can find ways to make learning fun. Public school teachers have been taught ways to keep their students interested and motivated, but the best way for one student will not be the best way for all students, which echoes with the proverb, “To teach students in accordance with their aptitude." Parents, in relationship with their children, can work with each child accordingly.

Customs

When people leave a familiar environment for an extended stay somewhere quite different, they are bound to experience a whole range of feelings. Many of these emotions will be unexpected, sometimes may be terribly strong or making people feel out of control and confused. This is what we call as the culture shock.

Some cultural differences can cause practical problems. For instance, people may not know the language, and this can lead to trouble with communication. A dialect is a form of a language with grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary that differ from other forms of the language. It develops when a group of the same language speakers are separated in some way. In addition, there are many customs and traditions that are new and may seem strange, so people may step out of line if they do not know what they really mean. Therefore, the newcomer always needs to spend quite handsome time on getting used to them.

Darwin found the valuable theory, “The survival of the fittest, the illness elimination.” A proverb also says,” Do as the Romans do.” Even so, the best way is to help the newcomers adapt themselves to the new life while having them try to follow the customs and traditions of the new place. Thus, they will gain a better understanding of both their new surroundings and neighbors. With this understanding, they can easily develop a feeling of comfort and belonging. However, should they change their mores once they have moved in the new place?

From my point of view, people should not make over their customs when they move to another country. First, different countries have different customs. Customs are a part of identity for one country that is easy for someone to know where you come from. Second, the customs of a country always exist, which should not be discarded by its people no matter where they are. Third, it is a good idea to celebrate them with others, not to segregate them. Each one has its own special traditions and culture.

However, living in a new country can be happy, irresistible or confusing. While some try to get the sense of belonging by learning the new language well, making new friends, or becoming another kind of people, they should always remember their own customs and traditions.

To Own Business and Work for Another Company

Some say, “Working for someone is easier than doing pioneering work.” However, others say, “Running companies for their own has much more advantages than being an employee.” Actually what is beneficial for one person is not always good for another; therefore, the proverb says, “One may distinguish himself in any trade. “

There are some similarities between owning business and working for another company. Now more and more people would like to have their own firm because making money and profit is the purpose to manage business; likewise, working for company is to help boss to earn money. Start an enterprise is to promote or sell products to customers, and to work for a company is to do the same thing. Both of them have the same goal and responsibility.

There are some differences in to manage business and to work for a company. People would like to set up a firm of their own because of some reasons. School or education is not the problem for them to operate a business. Freedom, time and money are the second whys and wherefores they would like to find another ways to instead of work for someone. People can work whenever they would. The money they earn belongs to theirs. In contrast, working in a company is not so much convenience as limit. Education background is the most important to find a job. People may lose liberty to do something when they work. Their salary may not increase even though they work hard.

However, there are some advantages to work for a company. People do not have any pressure if their company did not make profit. They do not need to pay money to employees when they work for another person; also, they have regular working hours or holidays to work for someone. In contrast, people need to worry if they did not earn money, as they do not have funds to pay or bear liability; also, employers need to pay more attention or diligence than other people.

To sum up, opportunities knock on every door, but not all are ready to answer it when they come. Well goes the proverb, “Easier said than done.” No matter what you choose – work own business or work for a company, you should have to know the right business for particular market.

Causes of Water Pollution

Water is undoubtedly the most precious natural resource that exists on our world, but water pollution seems to be always around us. Water pollution is chemical, physical or biological change in the quality of water that not only has a harmful effect on any living thing that drinks or uses or lives but also harms the natural environment. The reasons to cause water pollution may be various, and it is usually caused by human activities. The major sources of water pollution can be classified into three parts- one is municipality, another is industry, and the other is agriculture.

The first reason to cause water pollution is municipality. Municipal water pollution consists of waste water from homes and commercial establishments. For instance, detergents, insecticide or herbicide that were made by chemical.

Next, industry is another reason for water pollution. The characteristics of industrial waste waters can differ considerably both within and among industries. Some factory facilities generate ordinary domestic sewage that can be treated by municipal facilities. Industries that generate wastewater with high concentrations of conventional pollutants, toxic pollutants or other nonconventional pollutants such as ammonia, need specialized treatment systems.

Finally, agriculture, including commercial livestock and poultry farming that are the source of many organic and inorganic pollutants in surface waters and groundwater. These contaminants include both sediment from erosion cropland and compounds of phosphorus and nitrogen that partly originate in animal wastes and commercial fertilizers.

To sum up, there is only one earth in our world. Three significant cause of water pollution are municipality, industry and agriculture, so finding ways to implement water pollution solutions are the only hope to stem the effects of water pollution on our natural resources, the people and animals that need these resources to survive.

In conclusion, the more you know about the process, the easier it will be used the tools creatively. Plus, you'll be able to solve most of the inevitable problems that crop up during TV production.

Learning is to our mind what food is to our body.

"What did you learn in the two years? “, asked by Gregory on last Saturday. It is a good question! I remembered that Harris asked the same question to all of us on the first semester as well. He also said, “If you choose to study, you have to give up your weekend. There are no holidays in school, but you can learn a lot after graduate.”

Now time flies, we will graduate after 3 months. Luckily, I didn’t waste money and time. It was in LHU that I discovered how to improve my English. I have not only learnt English, Japanese, grammar, writing, but also made friends.

Irene, she is gentle, thoughtful and a studious lady. I regarded her less as my classmate than as my best friend. Because she has a very good command in English, she studies five times as hard as I do. She always tried her best whatever she did. It is diligence that makes up for deficiency. Thanks for she taught me in the two years, thanks for she always helps me. I am glad to be her friend.

How to Deal with Stress?

When you get something and push your limit, what will you do?

Stress can have a variety of causes such as family problems, job problems or poor health, it comes from external and internal factor. The anxiety that occurs as a result of pressure can literally break you down. Some people can not asleep, some people may angry or go to suicide, so it is important to know how to deal with and get rid of the cause of stress.

Here are some effective ways of dealing with stress. First, just take a deep breath, drink water and try to be calm! You need to let your emotions out but stay in control. Be aware of your choices, otherwise, you will regret for you action. Second, finding someone who you can trust or you would like to talk! You are not alone, you are not hopeless, your family or friends may provide you some good ideas to solve the problems. Third, take positive steps in advance if you know something is going to add to your stress. Identify causes of other hassles, minor stresses and eliminate them if possible. This is the most practical solution but is often disregarded. Finally, exercise a little every day. This releases endorphins that can lower stress levels and you will have more self-confidence and energy.

In short, life can be stressful. But just change your mind, surround yourself with positive people and attitude, while there is a life, there is hope!

Cola Chen

Cola Chen that is ten to eleven years old and my favorite animal. Her name was chosen by me. You may wonder why she call Cola Chen? She was very cute, I hope that she can happy forever ,so that was why I called her "Cola Chen".

She has good shape, 6 kilograms, medium-sized dog. Her hair is gray and black.
She is very active, lively, and quiet sometimes. She likes eating , playing, like to be beautiful, like to take a bath as well.

She has a lot of nicknames. When she was happy, I called her Lele. When she ignored me, I called her arrogant. When she blocked my way, I called her road gangster. When she looked at me, I called her Pearl La because of her dark eyes big and round like as pearls.

She is my best friend that is also a member of my family!

Do you like live at home with your family or do you like live alone ? Most of young people like live alone without their families because no one can restrict to them. They can do what they want to do, but it may cost a lot of money and all should be done by themselves.

However, young people who live at home have several advantages. First of all, they live at home save money on rent, power bill or others. They do not need to worry how much they spent.

Second, they do not have to cook, clean house, or do laundry because someone who can take care of them.

Third, they have emotioned support of their families. With the help of their families, they can solve the problems easily.

Taiwan is very popular with foreigners! Because the culture and nighlife in Taiwan are attractive to tourists. There are many places to call at no matter it is day or night. Department stores are everywhere. Tourists can spend almost all day shopping inside the huge building. If they are hungry in the evening, night market is the best place and choice. Vendors sell many kinds of stuffs, delicious dishes are also cheap. Tourists can play games to win the gifts as well. It is much fun.

The positive effects of tourism in this area that is the more tourists came, the more money we earned. For negative effects of tourism that is destroy the natural environment. The more tourists came, the more trash they made.

Why do people always like to say, “Go on a diet.” Do you think people will look more handsome or beautiful if they are thin? Does thin equal nice-looking ?

How to stay in good health physically is very important nowadays. Everyone likes to lose their weight what sexes they are. You will look nice if you are thin. But you will disliked by other people if you are fat. You can wear whatever you want if you are fit. But you may need to pay extra money to buy bigger size if you are overweight.

I was very fat nine years ago. Despite many people told me to stay away from fat foods, I still liked food cooked in deep fat. One day, one of my new colleagues said, “Are you a pregnant?” I was so embarrassed to say, “No,” due to my overweigh. Because I did not want to be misunderstood as the pregnant, I decided to go on a diet. I spent four months to lose my weight that was around nineteen kilograms. How amazing I did!

Here are some great suggestions that will help you to keep a healthy and fit body. Eating right and regular is very important for those who want to lose their weight. You will eat more if you do not eat as usual. Second, be careful when you eat! You can eat what you want to eat, but you have to control the quantity. Third, exercise is good for your body. Why Did I Decide to Go to College?

Language skill and a college diploma are the basic requirements when it comes to looking for a job nowadays. It is not easy to find a better job if I do not have any skills or a college degree.

Before I went to college, I thought about studying English abroad because my English was very pool. At first I thought my English would become better if I study in a foreign country. However, my parents said, “You are too old to study abroad. You are no longer young, and you may not be able to earn more money or find the right person to get married easily after you study overseas.” I was so frustrated ; therefore, I went traveling with my friend in Thailand in 2005. This was the 1st trip I took as a break from work and the first time I went overseas. After coming back from Thailand and because of the poverty gap, I had changed my mind and decided to learn English and get a college degree in 2008.

Going to school was an important decision I had to make since I was always busy at work and I did not have much time to study. Most of my friends graduated from college, but I only graduated from a two-year college. So I decided to further my education at Lunghwa University of Science and Technology in 2008, which was the decision I will never regret in my life.

My parents disagreed when I passed on the exam because I was too busy to study and they were worried that I could not manage all the hard work. My friends also thought I would not have leisure time if I went to study every weekend, I still made my up to be a student at Lunghwa University of Science and Technology.

There are many kinds of advantages as a college student here in Taiwan. First, I do not have to spend too much money learning English. Second, I do not have to give up my job. Third, I can gain more information and knowledge from school.

To make a conclusion, studying abroad is not the only way to learn English. Although I do not have the chance to study in other countries, I can find other ways to learn the language well. I believe I can upgrade myself if I keep on learning.

Attendance in University Classes.

School is a place where students learn and able to interact with other classmates, and professors. But is it important to attend in college classes? Should attendance in classes affect college students’ grades ?

Going to school is part of being the duty of a student. Nowadays college students are attending every class less and less because of their own reasons. Some students said, “If they can simply read a book to obtain their grades, there is no reason why they should waste their time in classes.” So students who have been absent from class for five times or other sessions too many may dropped by their instructors.

To tell the truth, attending in classes is not so hard. This is basic courtesy to respect parents who worked hard to help children to get to the college, and also respect for professors who taught students. Second, regular and punctual attendance in classes should mandatory for all of students. If students have excessive absences, they might not be able to learn well. Third, earning money is not easy! Students should not spend money like water, they should ask themselves why they paid money to absent the classes. Having an extra “A” for attendance could be the easiest achievement students get all semester, therefore.

To summarize, the more students learn, the more students earn. They should take all the chances they can get from college! From my point of view, the most important thing is what students learn in school.

New Year’s Resolutions for 2010.

Every year I make some resolutions! Then I had also checked what I have had done on the end of the year. There are no exceptions this year.

1. Going traveling in the Czech Republic.

One day, I watched a TV program about the Czech Republic where the scenery was so beautiful that I felt like going back to the ancient time so I was
eager to go there. Since I spend most of my time at work, I seldom take a rest.
I am getting tired of working and studying all the time, so I will take a long
break from work and spend 2 weeks traveling there after I graduate.

2. Not to eat too spicy.

All of my friends know that I like to eat spicy food. I know “eating too much of the spicy foods is unhealthy for me”, but I still like to eat. I have had an eye surgery since 9 years ago. I remembered that the doctor said, “Keep away from anything spicy in the future or it would affect your eyes.” But I still continue to eat spicy whatever I eat. Now I am no longer younger, I don’t want to injure my eyes anymore, so I will try to avoid any spicy or eat less spicy.

Just be simple and keep smile, my life will get better.
